I’ve done this a long time. By now I know now some people embrace silence as a strategy or just presume the government will magically see who they “really are.”
Others approach it differently. They build.
No happy talk or cliches–they build a documented record over time. One that shows who they are, what they’ve done, why they’re different than the government’s version of events and what they will do moving forward: in sum, they work to engineer the outcome they want.
Judges and probation officers don’t guess. Case managers don’t speculate. They look at what’s been created over time, not at the last minute.
What We Cover on the Call
When you schedule a call with our team, we’ll walk you through what others did—step by step—to build the kind of record that influenced cynical stakeholders–and rest assured all government stakeholders are cynical.
Whether you hire us or just use our free tools, you’ll leave the call with a clear understanding of what to do next.
Why We Send You Earning Freedom
After the call, we’ll send you a copy of Earning Freedom—written by my partner, Michael Santos.
I met Michael in prison.
I was still adjusting to the shock of surrendering. He had already served 22 years at that point, with four more to go. And yet—he had more discipline, more structure, and more peace of mind than anyone I had ever met.
Michael became a mentor to me. He was the first person who challenged me to stop thinking about what I had lost—and to start thinking about what I was building. He was authentic, a true master who had documented his progress and grown a massive support network. You should learn from him, as I did and still do.
When Michael came home, he kept building. Now he leads our nonprofit’s work—meeting with Bureau of Prisons leadership to expand home confinement, earned time credits, and furlough access for more people across the country.
Reminder, This Isn’t Just About Sentencing
The same record you build before sentencing can carry through every stage:
- Presentence reports
- BOP designation and custody level
- RDAP participation
- Program access
- Home confinement eligiblility, per the new BOP policy.
- Supervised release modification.
- Early termination from probation
Each of these decisions involves a staff member with discretion, and they often make those decisions based only on what you create–the earlier you start, the better.
