Satellite Camp
Butner Camp SCP is a minimum-security satellite camp located in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, near Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. The camp houses male residents and is part of the larger Butner Federal Correctional Complex.

People at Butner Camp live in cubicle-style housing. Each housing area has two TV rooms: a larger room with five televisions for general and sports programming, and a smaller room for Spanish-language shows.
The UNICOR factory manufactures utility and dress shirts for the U.S. military and includes a data-entry section (Combined Accounts Payable). There is both a priority and a regular waiting list to get assigned.
The facility accepts USPS First-Class, Priority, and Express mail. Contact the institution before sending overnight packages through FedEx or UPS.
The camp offers a non-residential drug treatment program, a drug education program, and Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous groups. Self-image groups and other voluntary programs are also available. Psychologists are on staff for individual and group psychotherapy.
The camp provides outpatient medical and dental care. Routine sick call is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6:45 to 7:15 AM. Pill line hours on weekdays are 6:30–6:45 AM (insulin only), 6:45–7:15 AM, 11:30 AM–12:00 PM, 4:30–4:45 PM (insulin only), and 7:30–8:00 PM. On weekends and holidays, pill line runs from 7:00–7:15 AM (insulin only) and 7:45–8:00 AM. At least one physician's assistant is on duty or on call around the clock, and a medical staff member is available seven days a week from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
The recreation department is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Activities include intramural team sports, aerobics, exercise bicycles, five racquetball courts, pool tables, ping-pong, card and table games, bingo, and a music listening room with CDs. Musical instruments and piano rooms are also available. The hobby craft center offers dedicated rooms for painting and ceramics, along with materials for knitting and drawing that can be used in housing units or the recreation area.
A wide range of religious programs is available. The camp is served by two full-time chaplains, along with contract and volunteer representatives of various faiths, including a contract rabbi and imam. A sweat lodge is provided for Native American services.
