Home Confinement Expands Because of Covid-19 in the Bureau of Prisons

If you have a loved one in federal prison, this may be the time to request a transfer to home confinement. The Attorney General published a memorandum on March 26, 2020. That Memorandum directed staff in the Bureau of Prisons to make more use of home confinement. If a person qualifies, the Bureau of Prisons should release people to serve the remainder of the sentence on home confinement.

People in low-security prisons and minimum-security camps have the greatest chance of qualifying. If those people have good records in federal prison, and if they score well on the Bureau of Prison’s risk assessment tool, they will stand a better chance of qualifying for transfer to home confinement.

This video shows the entire Memorandum that the Bureau of Prisons published.
