Federal Judge David Carter presided over a sentencing hearing at the Ronald Regan Courthouse in Santa Ana, CA on September 6, 2022.
For educational purposes, I recorded the experience.
The Assistant United States Attorney was seeking a federal prison term of 87 months in federal prison. The probation officer recommended a sentence of 78 months in federal prison.
The losses, in this case, were more than 3 million; there were also more than 100 victims. The guideline range was 78-97 months in federal prison.
As you will hear in this sentencing video, it was an emotional day. More than 10 victims spoke to discuss how the defendant’s actions impacted their lives.
It was clear early in the hearing Judge Carter was moved by the victim’s statements–he was equally disgusted at our client telling him, “You are a danger to society.”
The more the victims spoke the more I believed Judge Carter would give him at least 10 years in federal prison.
In this video, you will hear details of the sentencing hearing, including the ultimate sentence length and whether or not our client was remanded to custody.
Thank you,
