The facility offers a nine-month, 500-hour Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a non-residential drug treatment program, a drug education program, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other voluntary groups. The Psychology Department is staffed by one RDAP coordinator and several doctoral-level psychologists.
The facility is staffed by several physicians, physician assistants, dentists, a dental assistant, pharmacists, and a pharmacist technician. An optometrist makes regular visits. Sick call is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 6:30 and 7:00 AM (routine sick call is not held on Tuesdays, weekends, or holidays). Outpatient care is provided. The pill line is available at 6:00 AM, 3:00 PM, and 8:00 PM. Physical examinations are offered every two years for persons under 50, and annually for those over 50. Medical staff is on duty or on call 24 hours a day.
The Recreation Department offers weights, a music room, pool tables, foosball, and ping-pong tables. The hobby craft center offers leather craft and ceramics. The recreation yard is open seven days a week all year.
The facility is staffed by two full-time chaplains. A contract rabbi provides services on a bi-monthly basis. A sweat lodge is available for Native American services. A community of volunteers provides services for most faiths. Milan is the pilot site for the Life Connections Program, an 18-month faith-based program designed to reduce recidivism by helping persons pursue their faith through increased opportunities for study and worship. The program includes a full-time chaplain, contractors for specific faith groups, and individual mentors.
