Psychology/Counseling Services

The Psychology Department provides mental health services, psychological evaluations, crisis consultation, referrals to medical services, and individual and group counseling. Services are provided in English and Spanish. The facility offers a 500-hour, nine-month Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a 40-hour drug education program, and a non-residential program for follow-up services. The department is staffed by five full-time psychologists.

Health Services

The facility is staffed by physicians, physician assistants, dentists, and a pharmacist. Outpatient care is provided, with several local hospitals located approximately 3 to 7 miles away. The clinic is open 24 hours daily, with a staff member always on emergency call after 4:00 PM. The medication line is available three times daily at 7:15 AM, 3:10 PM, and 7:45 PM. Sick call sign-up is from 6:30 to 7:00 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. At least one physician assistant is on duty or on call 24 hours a day. Persons under 50 may request a physical examination every two years, while those over 50 may request one annually.

Fitness & Recreation

Leisure activities include organized and informal games, wellness activities, intramural group and individual sports, movies, art work, hobby crafts, physical fitness, table games, board games, and social and cultural organizations. Recreation decks are open Monday through Friday from 6:10 AM to 8:30 PM, and weekends and holidays from 7:10 AM to 8:30 PM. Available sports include mini soccer, handball, mini volleyball, and basketball. Activities are also conducted in the housing units. Schedules are posted on education and recreation bulletin boards.

Religious Services

A full-time staff chaplain coordinates programs, with Christian, Jewish, and Muslim clergy contractors available for services and instruction. Clergy and lay volunteers of various faith groups supplement the religious program. Religious and personal counseling is available to all persons on request. A chaplain is on duty every day of the week, with schedules posted on chapel bulletin boards.
